Getting Relevant Traffic to Your Finance Website

You want to generate traffic to your financial website. That’s understandable. Who wouldn’t want that? After all, without traffic, you won’t be able to gain traction with your site or blog. The truth is, getting traffic to your website is easy. Within a day or so, you can get floods of traffic.

Which would you rather have, 100 people who visit your website looking for quality finance-related information, or 5,000 average schmoes who won’t know a stock symbol from a hieroglyph? It’s likely you chose the 100 relevant visitors.

Perhaps you can brag to your friends that your website got 5,000 visitors. But, bragging rights do little to build a long-term financial website, one where people revisit often. That is a true test of a successful financial website (or any website, for that matter), how many people return! How many people sign up for your newsletter? And the truest “litmus test” is how many people buy products or services from you?

How to Get Relevant Traffic

Before you make your fingers bleed writing a bunch of useless articles or blog posts on your blog, take a step back and ask what you want to accomplish with it. What are your goals for your website? You should not proceed without having this basic information formulated. Otherwise, you’ll be shooting in the dark, randomly selecting topics that won’t make much of a difference towards generating any traffic, let alone targeted traffic.

After you have a grasp on your goals for the site, ask yourself who do you want to visit. You will read about phrases such as customer avatars or targeted customer, etc. Whatever it’s called, it’s a way to determine the demographics of your website.

You can get this information by checking out who visits your competition. Look up a competitor’s Twitter profile and visit the Twitter feed. Find out who is following that company or website. Those people are part of your target market. You can do this same exercise with any social media platform.

Don’t get too hung up on the demographics. You can refine the process later. Just get a get initial feel for who you believe would be the best target audience you want visiting your website.

Is the Financial Blogosphere Too Competitive?

There are thousands upon thousands of financial websites and blogs in existence. In another year, there will be thousands and thousands more. It makes you wonder if it’s worth it to continue with maintaining a finance-related website.

Here’s the good news. Just because there are thousands of websites dedicated to financial topics, most of them are junk. These websites contain sales pitches, or they contain garbage content that drives visitors away. If you can rise above this trash and give readers what they want, you will open the floodgates to not only traffic but beautiful, targeted traffic. It’s the kind of traffic bloggers dream of, but most fall short of getting.

Creating Great Financial Content

To keep yourself away from the digital riff-raff, you need to create content that wows your readers. That is essential. Otherwise, your finance site is going to be just like the rest, lost in the virtual abyss!

The big question of the day is how do you create great content? It can’t be just good. It has to be great. Now for some bad news – it won’t be excellent when you first get started. Let’s face it; most people aren’t good writers or content creators. It takes practice just like anything else.

One way to come up to speed quickly with content creation is to emulate what the top bloggers are doing. This doesn’t mean copying them word-for-word. You want to get a sense of the tone and style of their websites and tailor that to your own style.

What About Keywords and SEO?

Bloggers are all-too-familiar with the terms keywords and SEO. Keywords appropriately mean what keywords will your target market use to find the information they are looking for. SEO is a bit trickier for the uninitiated. It is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. It’s techniques which are supposed to help the search engines figure out what your content is about.

The biggest problem with both of these concepts is they change all the time. The Master of the Search Engine Universe (Google) changes these rules as do the other less-significant search engines. What worked two years ago can put your website into search engine neverland.

One underlying concept that has withstood every change search engines make is quality content. In other words, don’t worry so much about the keywords or SEO. Just write from the heart and do it consistently. Write what you believe will be of value to your readers. Nothing more!

Another common tactic is to get other bloggers in the finance world to guest post on your blog or website. Preferably, you want to choose people who are rising in the ranks of influence. Although these influencers are competitors, the web works best when everyone works together to give the readers the best value possible. Everyone wins when this happens, even all the participating competitors.

If you don’t have time for content creation but still want to generate quality traffic to your website, consider outsourcing the task. You may have to go through a few outsourcers to find ones who will do a great job for you. But, once you find them, as long as you are willing to keep them happy ($$$), you won’t have to keep looking for them.

On this note, don’t skimp out on price when looking for a quality writer. They are qualified for a reason. If you bottom fish, you will constantly be looking for new writers. When you find a good writer and pay him or her a lousy rate, it won’t take long for him or her to find another client who pays better.

It’s worth it to pay up for your writers. When you give them what they deserve, and you are fair to them, you have them for life. You will get a return on that investment by growing the right kind of audience for your financial blog.

How To Get Traffic To Your Websites

It’s probably the most sought-after topic in Internet marketing – how to get more traffic to your websites.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling your own products, promoting affiliate offers or looking for AdSense clicks, you’re not going to earn a single cent if there’s no traffic coming to your site.

There’s more to the process than just getting more traffic, however. You not only want traffic, you want targeted traffic – people who are going to be interested in what you have to offer.

In this article we’re going to look at a number of ways – both paid and free – to get more visitors to your website. Some of these methods can generate almost instant traffic while others will take longer to gain momentum.

By diversifying your traffic generation over several methods, you can get fast traffic while gradually ramping it up over a longer period of time.

Let’s jump right in…

Getting The Right Kind Of Traffic

Before we look at any specific methods for generating traffic to your website, we should really discuss what kind of traffic you should be targeting.

Because there is a right and a wrong kind of traffic.

The right kind of traffic is visitors who are not only interested in what you have to offer them, they’re willing and able to take the action that you want them to take. The wrong kind is simply the opposite – visitors who aren’t likely to take your “most wanted action.”

Let’s look at a couple of examples…

First, let’s say you have an affiliate review website. You post reviews and other content on your site, with affiliate links for those products. Whenever someone buys one of the offers, you get paid a commission.

If you generate a ton of traffic, but not very many of those people are either willing or able to spend money, you’re not going to generate much profit from them. A good example would be a market where your visitors are mostly teenagers. While they might be very interested in the subject, and willing to buy what you’re promoting, a large percentage of them won’t be able to buy because they don’t have credit cards and their parents may not let them use theirs.

A market like that might be better suited for a site that displays AdSense ads, which brings us to our second example. Let’s say you have a site that is monetized purely with AdSense. In this case, it doesn’t matter so much if your visitors are able to buy, since you get paid when they click an ad, regardless of what they do once they leave your site.

If the market has a lot of “clickers” who don’t turn into buyers, the ads aren’t going to pay very well, but we’ll set that aside for the moment.

From a pure conversion point of view, you’re going to want visitors who are looking for a solution to their problem – and hopefully the ads displayed on your site offer that solution. Again, you want to target the right people to get the maximum number of clicks on those ads.

If you’re generating a lot of traffic looking for free solutions, or just looking for information, you may not get many clicks. So more traffic isn’t necessarily going to be more profitable.

Before you start doing any kind of traffic generation, make sure you’re targeting the right people for your offer. Otherwise you’re going to be spending a lot of time, money or both with little or no return for the efforts.

Free Traffic Methods

Free traffic is certainly the more popular of the two choices (the other being paid traffic). Many Internet marketers just don’t have the capital to start paying for traffic, so free traffic is a better way to go.

Some marketers don’t really understand the economics of paying for traffic either, which is an entirely different problem. If you can make a profit, or just break even on what you pay to get traffic to your website, it’s really not costing you anything. It’s common for marketers to see the cost side of the equation without considering the profit side, but we’ll get into this in a little more detail when we discuss paid traffic sources shortly.

When it comes to getting free traffic, there are two types – short-term and long-term traffic. Some methods can generate visitors to your site in a very short time, almost instantly in some cases. Other methods will take longer to gain momentum, but these tend to keep driving traffic to your site for a longer period of time once they get going.

Short-Term Traffic Generation

We’re going to look at three sources of short-term traffic that can work very well if you implement them properly:

1. Forum marketing
2. Guest blogging
3. Article submissions

Forum Marketing

Forum marketing is one of the easiest ways to get short-term traffic, particularly if you’re already active in any popular forums in your market.

Note: In this report, many of the examples will relate to the Internet marketing niche, since most people reading it will be somewhat familiar with it. All the strategies work equally well in other markets, so don’t let yourself get caught thinking “this only works for Internet marketing websites” – that’s just not true.

Most forums will let you add a “signature” to your profile, which gets added to the end of every post you make. You can include a link to your website in your signature, along with a short call to action to get people to click through to it.

If you’re active on the forum, and provide good value in your posts, people will click on your signature link. Particularly if you offer them something of value that’s related to the market, like a free report, webinar recording or some other type of incentive.

The key here is to be an active part of the community and provide value first. If you just sign up for a forum, add your signature link and starting posting randomly with stuff like “Hey, great post!” then don’t expect much in the way of traffic.

Give value first, and people will respond by checking
out what else you have to offer them.

Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is another great way to “siphon” traffic from a community of people interested in your market. A blog is a little less interactive than a forum, but it has many similarities.

Find some of the most popular blogs in your market and see if they accept guest bloggers. Some sites are up-front about this, with a page that explains exactly how to become a guest blogger for them. Other sites don’t advertise it, but if you spend a bit of time reading through existing posts, you’ll be able to see if the same person writes them all or if the site has used guest posts in the past.

Generally guest posts will have a resource box or author byline that gives more information about the author, as well as a link back to their website. If you see any of these, it’s a good indication that the site accepts guest posts.

The key to getting your post accepted is to offer a high-quality article that the blog owner would be crazy not to accept. Spend even longer than you usually would researching, outlining and writing these posts. While it means an extra investment in time, you can get a lot of traffic clicking through to your site if your guest post goes live on a high-traffic blog.

And while this click through traffic will slow down once the post has been live for a while, it can continue indefinitely as that post gains traction in the search engines. Plus that resource link pointing back to your site will also help you with SEO in the long term, so this is a powerful strategy.

Article Submissions

Article submissions, or article marketing, can be another powerful traffic strategy that will provide you will both short-term and long-term benefits. Much like guest blogging, the short-term traffic will come from people clicking through on your resource box links to visit your website.

By submitting your articles to high-authority websites, you can leverage their power with the search engines to get your articles ranked quickly and generating traffic. This direct traffic can actually continue for the long term if your article gets some traction with Google and the other search engines, but it also helps your own site rank better so it starts generating search engine traffic of its own.

Which brings us to longer-term traffic strategies…

Long-Term Traffic Generation

We’re going to look at three longer-term strategies for getting traffic to your websites:

1. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization
2. Social Media
3. Relationship Building

Search Engine Optimization

SEO is probably the most common free traffic strategy. There are dozens of techniques for improving your rankings in the search engines, and just as many products that teach you how to implement them. Some of these methods work year after year while others are more short-lived.

You’ll also see a lot of methods that would be considered gray hat or ***** hat meaning they might go against the terms of service of one or more search engines, or even cross legal lines.

You’ll need to decide for yourself exactly what lines you’re willing to cross in the interest of getting traffic to your website, but keep in mind that the stuff that crosses those lines tends to be the techniques that are more short-lived. They may require less work up-front, but in the long run you can wind up spending more time or money to maintain your traffic because things keep changing.

SEO is a huge topic that goes way beyond the scope of this report, but let’s just look at a few of the most important principles.

There are two main factors to SEO – on site and off site optimization. On site optimization is things like using your keywords in strategic places on your pages:

-The TITLE tag
-In the page content itself
-Image ALT tags
-etc.

At one time, repeating your keywords over and over throughout the page (known as keyword stuffing) would improve your results but the search engines have evolved well beyond that. Don’t do this, just use your keywords and other related terms naturally in the content.

Off site optimization really comes down to links pointing to your website. The more links you get, from related sites that also have some power of their own with the search engines, the better your site is going to rank (and the more traffic you’ll get as a result).

This is where the short- and long-term strategies start to overlap a bit. If you’re using any of the short-term traffic strategies we just discussed to get quick traffic to your sites, they will also help you with SEO in the long term.

The links in your forum signatures, guest blog posts and submitted articles will all help push your site up the search engine rankings so while you might get a short-term jump in traffic when they first go live, they will keep working for you for a long time.

This is why it’s a good idea to keep doing those things, even when your site starts to get traction in the search engines. It will continue to drive both instant and longer-term traffic.

Social Media

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are a relatively new way to get traffic, and as a result they tend to be misunderstood. A lot of marketers use them as a kind of “announcement” service, posting links to new offers, affiliate promotions, new blog posts and anything else they want people to visit.

But that’s all they ever post, and then they think social media doesn’t work because nobody ever clicks through on their links.

The fact is, social media is a longer-term traffic strategy. You need to build relationships with the people you follow before you can expect them to click on any of the links you post.

You need to create content every day. This should always be value driven by the target prospects. This will keep them interested and fully engaged at all times.

You also need to reach out to the market and to people in the social media platforms as well as on the offline meetings. If you are not conversant about prospecting, there are available resources that can prove helpful online. When you follow the plans well and diligently, you will be able to get waves of rock-solid traffic eventually. You will notice that your sales and leads will grow quite a lot as you follow the steps.

Strengthening and Enforcing Our Profession

In order to be an effective project manager (PM), we should look at our definition of project management. Definitions surprisingly vary greatly by organization and individual. We should be careful about calling something project management that really is not. Doing so often confuses the profession. Call it what it is. If a position is more administrative, add this label. If a position is more holistic with overall responsibility and leadership for the success of the project, I’d be more inclined to call it project management. Well defined roles are not only essential for the organization and individual, but for the profession at large.

If someone is used to providing project leadership and overall project responsibility under a PM title, certain expectations are set. If the next opportunity doesn’t provide the same opportunities and expectations both the organization and individual may experience issues. Likewise if someone is in a lower level position where they simply schedule meetings and follow-up on action items, this individual may develop an inappropriate perception of project management. Remember, a true PM is responsible for all aspects of the project, including management of scope, time, cost, quality, procurement, human resources, communication, risk management, stakeholder management, and integration. I’d even take this list a step further and involve the PM in scope discussions during business development. It’s never too early to involve the person responsible for high stakes efforts.

Other pet peeves of mine are a lack of analysis and a lack of communication skills. Project management isn’t about producing reports or documents, but managing to ensure project success. Project data is necessary to ensure success, but without analysis and interpretation it is strictly administrative data. I’m also often amazed at the lack of communication in project management. Strong PMs spend eighty to ninety percent of their time communicating. This doesn’t mean just forwarding emails, but providing impact analysis and recommendations. And my final pet peeve (for this posting!) centers on improperly handling situations by escalating all items or informing all parties of all developments. This goes along with communication. Determine your stakeholders and how you will interact with those stakeholders. It may be easier to copy everyone involved, but it’s not about what is easy.

Ways to Create a Powerful Website Design

For businesses to grow and be successful they need a website since this is among the most effective tools to realize their goal. This is also the way to draw potential customers to the products and/or services they offer. In addition, this has a wider reach compared to other marketing methods without their high startup costs. Businesses can consider the following tips to create a powerful web design.

Take Advantage of Visual Hierarchy

The term visual hierarchy refers to the arrangement of website elements like the color, font size, white space and position to put emphasis on the primary point for every page. In order to complement a call to action (CTA), it is important to direct the eyes of visitors to something they want done by means of these visual factors.

To highlight their landing page’s central theme, they can do the following:

Make the font size larger.
Place the text at the top part of the window.
Choose a contrasting color since this stands out from the rest of the page.
Include a captivating graphic or video making use of the latest innovative web design trends.
Use white space so it will stick out from other text.

Use Minimalism

Businesses should use and integrate the above mentioned elements on the website but they have to keep in mind that this should be done in moderation. If this is overdone, this will cause cluttering, which will make customers confused or even worse, discouraged.

Also, they should not let visitors complete many tasks. They should minimize form fields as well as menu items and only focus on one CTA that has one goal per page.

According to a Google study, users do not like visual complexity. There are ways to simplify a site such as:

Eliminate the Sidebar – rather than have readers click on information on the sidebar, the process can be made easier by taking away this element and just create a very long page. In this way, they will be able to scroll through the content and scan everything, raising the possibility that the message of the brand will be conveyed.

Go for Familiar Layouts – while they may think that an unusual site design will set their domain apart from the rest of the competition, visitors are actually attracted to simple layouts with easy to understand icons and effects. Also, using a regular web structure can improve navigation on their site.

Prioritize Readability

Businesses should consider readability to make it easy for users to recognize and comprehend the text on their site. Prioritizing this factor will make sure that users will not have a difficult time in scanning their site and will remember the information they want to be retained. They should use the most ideal typeface, font size and contrasting colors for their brand.

Conclusion

Websites are important since these provide prospects with information on the business, which includes the office address, email address and phone numbers.

In addition, websites enable businesses to build and establish credibility in their niche of choice by being a source they can trust and rely on. The best SEO strategies and relevant content will help establish their authority in their industry making use of their domain and most especially, a powerful website.
